Counsel for law school graduates recently announced the filing of class action suits against 12 law schools for the way employment data about the graduates is reported.
Plaintiffs' counsel stated that a total of 15 schools have been sued so far, the American Bar Association (ABA) Journal reports, including these twelve. The plaintiffs say that schools manipulated employment and salary data concerning their graduates to attract students, misleading them about their career prospects.
"We believe that some in the legal academy have done a disservice to the profession and the nation by saddling tens of thousands of young lawyers with massive debt for a degree worth far less than advertised," said David Anziska, one of the plaintiffs' attorneys.
Officials from more that one school have responded that they follow guidelines established by the ABA and the National Association for Law Placement, the news source reports.
Insurance for educational institutions may help to cover costs in the event of lawsuits like these. A certified risk manager may be able to help schools determine their level of risk and what an appropriate level of coverage is to protect against such issues.
