What To Do At Time of Loss

Your insurance policy requires you to comply with certain provisions and follow specific procedures when filing a claim.

Property Losses

1.  Fire and other direct damage policies require an immediate written notice of loss to the insurance company.

2.  The loss notice should specify the following:

     cause of the loss
     time of occurrence
     extent of damage

 3.  Loss resulting from burglary, theft, or vandalism must also be reported to the police.

4.  As the insured, you are obligated to protect your property from further damage.  You should board up windows, perform temporary roof repairs, shore up walls to prevent collapse, etc.  These expenses will be considered a part of the loss and will be covered by your policy.

5.  After your loss, you must identify in detail what was damaged or destroyed.  Also, you must establish a value, demonstrate your insurable interest, and submit proof of loss within the prescribed time.

Workers' Compensation & Liability Claims

1.  Workers' Compensation and Liability policies specify that any injury or occurrence must be reported as soon as possible.

2.  Your report should provide full details of the circumstances including:

      time and place of occurrence
name and address of any injured party
description and location of any damaged property
name and address of any witnesses

3.  If at any time a claim or suit is filed against you, you are obligated to cooperate with the company.  Your policy prohibits you from making any voluntary payments or from assuming liability in any way.

4.  Liability policies require you to report any occurrence that may result in a claim.  Therefore, you should instruct your employees to personally report any incident, no matter how insignificant, to management.

Whether it is a Property Loss, Liability Claim, or an Injury to an Employee, immediately report it in writing (by FAX or mail) to Fred C. Church, Inc.   Our Claims Staff will assist you and answer any questions you may have.

ALWAYS RETAIN ALL LIABILITY POLICIES (INCLUDING WORKERS’ COMPENSATION) IN YOUR FILES TO ASSIST IN RESPONDING TO CLAIMS BROUGHT AGAINST YOU LONG AFTER YOUR POLICIES HAVE EXPIRED.
